1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Coin

The 1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle coin is a United States 20-dollar gold coin that was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful U.S. coins ever produced.

Interestingly, despite the fact that 445,500 of these coins were minted in 1933 during the Great Depression, none of them were officially circulated, and all but two were ordered to be melted down. However, 20 more of these coins were later discovered and rescued.

The 1933 Double Eagle coin holds the record for being the most valuable coin in the world. In fact, it was sold by Sotheby's in June 2021 for nearly $19 million. The coin was graded MS65 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
